About the Organization

The Centro de Investigacion Cooperativa en Nanociencias was created with a clear aim to lead the scientific and technological supply in the scattered and poorly developed fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology in the Basque Country, so as to be able, first, to support Basque firms in the incorporation of nano on its products and processes as differential element of competitiveness and, secondly, to open the doors to the development of a new and emerging field of nano products and services able to take advantage of technological developments in this area to position in the global market.

It was certainly an impressive challenge since nanoscience and nanotechnology are emergent areas and as such, not absent of difficulties and obstacles. Until recently the potential of nanoscience and nanotechnology was acknowledged although the gap between research and the market was huge and very few business opportunities materialized, not just in the Basque Country, but worldwide. Nanogune's mission - to conduct excellent research in nanoscience and nanotechnology, research market-oriented with the potential to be transferred to the Basque industry, so that it serves to lead, coordinate and promote the ecosystem of nanoscience and nanotechnology in the Basque Country, enabling its position as a world leader- is based in three strategic keys: 1- Market orientation and focalization of excellence research; 2-Business leadership to orientate research; 3- Scientific leadership to push a real collaborative research. These three strategic keys are based on the following assets: a technology transfer model able to drive knowledge and technology into the market; state of the art facilities and instruments; an articulated world class network of talent; integration and social connection so that the (Basque) society participates in nanoGUNE's achievements.
