Fatema completed a Bachelor degree in Social Work at the University of Nicosia, with highest distinction. In the past, she did an introductory courses of social sciences, basic theoretical concepts of social science, research methods and a few more (within the course of bachelor degree program of Social Science) with the Open University UK.

Fatema Islam initially joined the Humanitarian Affairs Unit of the Future Worlds Center in June 2013 as an intern social worker.
