Description
Two teachers’ trainings will be organised in each of the partner countries. Trainings will last 4 days and will target primarily elementary school teachers, as elementary teachers are more flexible in the design of their lessons and thus more likely to integrate DE material. The number of participants per training will be a minimum of 20; however, it will be limited to 40. During the training, teachers will acquire knowledge about development problems, the interdependence of Europe and the developing countries, as well as the emerging need for development cooperation. They will acquire skills of how to address development issues in classrooms, and, most important, how to use the DE material that has previously been gathered reassessed and modified by the national and international TAG. The trainings in Ireland and Scotland will be carried out by the Irish and Scottish partners respectively, for the trainings in Lithuania and Cyprus, experts as well as the Irish and Scottish partners will be invited to train the teachers. Having long and sound experience in development education and in working with teachers in particular, the Scottish and Irish partner are in the very position to share their knowledge and experience with partners and teachers in Lithuania and Cyprus. A delegation of five teachers from Bulgaria will be invited to participate at one of the two Scottish Trainings, and one delegation of five teachers at on of the Irish trainings, thus providing Bulgarian teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to promote Development Work in schools and to be able to stimulate Bulgarian youth to take action for more equitable North-South relations. In addition to the ‘internal project experts’, an additional expert will be invited to each training. The expert is to be identified by the project team. During the five day training, teachers will learn about the history of development work and development cooperation, about the socio-economic problems in development countries, as well as about the interdependence of Europe with these countries. In working groups, several learning approaches will be studied and experienced, and members of the TAG in line with the experts will be responsible to train teachers in using DE material and integrating DE activities in their lesson plans.
Results
- A minimum of 40 trained teachers per partner country and 10 teachers in the associate country.
- Teachers will be able to act as multipliers in development education and will cover both elementary and secondary schools.
Role of partners
Each partner will be responsible to organise the teachers training in their city, to invite and identify the participant teachers as well as European experts (LT and CY trainings only) and local experts (UK and IE). The Irish and Scottish partner will act as experts for the trainings in Lithuania and Cyprus and will share their knowledge and experience with the teachers in the New Member States. The Irish partner will attend the training in Lithuania, and the Scottish partner the training in Cyprus. The Bulgarian associate will be responsible to identify five teachers to participate at the training in Cyprus.
