The conference was under the auspices of the Ministry of Education & Culture. There was a welcoming address from a representative of the Ministry of Education & Culture and from Mr. Aleco Alexandrou (Head of Internet Services, CYTA). First presenter at this event was Mrs. Anastasia Economou (Head of the Department of Educational Technology of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute) and discussed about the relation parent – child together in the virtual world. Second presenter was Mrs. Aliki Freskou, Consultant/Psychologist for the “YpoSTIRIZO” Helpline of the Adolescent Health Unit, 2nd Dept. of Pediatrics, University of Athens P&A Kyriakou Children‟s Hospital that talked about Internet addiction. Following Mrs. Freskou, was Mr. Alex Christoforou (Managing Director, Wadja Media) that talked about Social Networking, Online Gaming and Virtual Lives. After the presentations followed a discussion between the students, parents, authorities, experts
 
and members the audience, coordinated by Dr. Yiannis Laouris that led to a very interesting and productive discussion. During the conference specially prepared videos from other Safer Internet Centers in Europe were played to the audience giving out the feeling of an International event.

Description

Co-organised by all partners on 08/02/2011, the SID conference gathered more than 600 students, teachers and parents with presentations from experts and panel discussions from experts and youth representatives.
