Short Bio

Fatema joined the Humanitarian Affairs Unit of the Future Worlds Center in June 2013 as an intern social worker. She closely works with Manos Mathioudakis, the Social advisor, and offers social assistance to vulnerable social group, particularly to asylum seekers and refugees, within the framework of the UNHCR funded project entitled Strengthening Asylum. She takes part in the case management and provision of social assistance to the beneficiaries of the Unit for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture. Additionally, she assists the office administrator to ensure the smooth daily operation of the Future Worlds Center.

Fatema is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Social Work at the University of Nicosia, with a full scholarship. She has been working in the field of migration and asylum since 2005 in Cyprus, as a staff member of KISA - Action for Equality, Support, Antiracism. Currently, she volunteers in number of local civil society organisations active in diverse spectrum of human rights field (gender-based discrimination, LGBTI rights, bi-communal).

Fatema speaks English, Greek and Bangla.
