Martin Oliveira started as an intern at Future Worlds Center in March 2016 for a period of six months. Due to his previous experience working with refugees in Brazil, USA, Spain and Bulgaria and personal interest to get to continue working in the similar field, he has been placed at the Humanitarian Affairs Unit.

Short Bio

Martin has a BS in International Relations (UNISINOS) and a MA is International Strategic Studies from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) with a concentration in topics such as Migration & Refugee Studies, Conflict & Peacebuilding and Political Economy. In 2015 he has studied a second MA in International Cooperation with a concentration in topics such as International Cooperation for Development; Humanitarian Assistance; Public International Law; Human Rights & Gender; Monitoring and Evaluation of Projects as well as NGO Management. Martin was an intern at the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), as well as member of the coordination team of the ‘Refugee Project’ in Bulgaria (CVS-Caritas-UNHCR Bulgaria). Since his previous experiences working for refugee NGOs, Martin has focused on asylum policies, refugee social integration and education, as well as protection of vulnerable/minority groups. Within the Humanitarian Affairs Unit, he hopes to gain a wider perspective of the challenges facing refugees in Cyprus, and in Europe. He is especially interested in social refugee integration as well as good practices in asylum policies.

He speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish, French and has basic knowledge of Arabic, Kurdish and Bulgarian.
