Thomas R. Marzolf holds a BS in Engineering from Drexel and a MSE in Engineering from Penn. He has forty years of experience developing software for various fields in roles including project manager, architect, principle consultant, and chief modeler, for companies including Planning Research, Iona Technologies, the Vanguard Group, and Aetna Insurance. He was a very early adopter of modeling for software and later for business architecture; he is experienced with modeling languages and tools, and also with design patterns. He has been studying systems since the 1970s. His main interest is in applying modeling to make systems understandable to mere humans, especially by integrating and unifying existing but often fragmented knowledge. His ultimate goal is a process to incrementally develop a model of the universe as a system of systems, including the systems ontology and taxonomy on which such a model must be based.
