Michael Melia
It is with great pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Mr. Michael Melia, an intern at our offices in Nicosia, Cyprus, from July through September 2011. Michael, who joined the Cyprus Neuroscience & Technology Institute (CNTI) for a summer position, was a keen worker and a great asset to two projects at the Institute.
First, Michael worked on MobLang, a European Commission funded project that applies mobile assisted language learning (MALL) to support minority and/or less-frequently used and less-taught European minority languages. The aim is to promote intercultural dialogue especially in former European conflict regions through the promotion of linguistic diversity. Michael was focused on several key aspects of the project. Helping with the user interface and audio development, he assembled and completed multimedia dimensions of the Greek-Turkish language program.
Second, Michael worked on internal auditing with a financial team in CNTI to finalise a set of financial statements. He demonstrated proficiency at excel, worked well independently when required, and collaborated with the team to successfully evaluate requisite documents.
Michael was a fast learner, a valuable team player and was always interested in taking on new work. He delivered results, usually ahead of time, and when finished he would jump at the chance to work on new projects, or in new areas. Michael’s enthusiasm and determination ensured that he achieved results, and in the meantime he was a delight to work with.
