Relation to Future Worlds Center

Partners with Future Worlds Center in CARDIAC project.

Forschungsinstitut Technologie und Behinderung (Research Institute Technology and Disability) was founded in 1991. The activities of its interdisciplinary team include development, evaluation and application of modern technologies to assist elderly people and people with disabilities.

The expertise in applied research is the result of the strong link between FTB and the rehabilitation centre ESV (Evangelische Stiftung Volmarstein i.e. Protestant Foundation Volmarstein) and the cooperation of people with disabilities and their support groups. Methodical and academic impulses are generated by the close affiliation as an institute of the universities of Dortmund and Hagen.

Within the three areas of expertise:

  • Research and Development
  • Information and Advice
  • Test and Evaluation

FTB focuses on assistive technology, barrier-free access and universal design. In the areas of technology and disability, FTB acts as a key contact for the government (local, federal and European), for the support groups of people with disabilities, and for industry. It has a track record of international collaborations and contacts.
