SDDP Obstacles to the efforts of creating the ideal Multicultural School as seen by senior stakeholders

Executive Summary
This report has been developed in the context of the Multicultural Cyprus project. An interactive structured dialogue workshop was organized as part of the program " Building a Multi- Ethnological and Multi-National Cyprus to promote European Values for Local and International Peace. " The main objective of the program was to promote knowledge and awareness of Cyprus society about how a multiculture and multinational Cyprus serves European values and promotes local but and international peace. The program involved students , teachers and parents in co- laboratories ( i.e., interactive workshops in which Participants determine the content of the dialogue and activities). The overall objective was to create a map - vision of a multicultural and poly-ethnic Cyprus. At the same time the participants were encouraged to envision, design and implement specific activities that would contribute to realizing the vision for a multicultural society.
Participants included representative educators from many schools, the Ministry, the Pedagogical institute and the reform committee.
The Triggering Question (TQ) was

In response to the TQ, the 18 participants came up with 46 ideas, which were categorized in 5 clusters. Following the voting process, 10 ideas received one or more votes and were structured to create the influence MAP shown below.
According to the participants of this workshop, the characteristics appear to be the most influential were:
- Factor # 6: Αντιρατσιστική εκπαίδευση στο αναλυτικό πρόγραμμα
- Factor # 45: Να ξαναγραφούν τα βιβλία της ιστορίας
- Factor # 16: Η εμπλοκή της οικογένειας στις δραστηριότητες του σχολείου
- Factor # 36: Μέσα από τα εργαστήρια οι συμμετέχοντες θα πρέπει να αντιληφθούν τα αποτελέσματα των διακρίσεων
- Factor # 38: Δημιουργία ομάδων στήριξης εκπαιδευτικών και μαθητών
The participants had time to discuss and reflect on the influence map and in general agreed that the arrows in the map made sense to them. In sum, the participants reported their satisfaction that their voices have been heard and documented and communicated their expectations for follow-up activities to address the diagnosis of their needs.
