Yiannis Laouris is a social, science and business entrepreneur, a neuroscientist and systems engineer. He has medical degree (Score 1.5-very good) from Leipzig University (Germany), a PhD in Neurophysiology with summa cum laude from Karl-Ludwig Institute (Leipzig) and an MS in Systems and Industrial Engineering (GPA 4.0) from the University of Arizona. In his early career he conducted research in neuro-motor control using applied digital signal processing in time and frequency domains to analyse single-unit recordings from experimental animals. In 1992 he returned to Cyprus and founded the Cyprus Neuroscience & Technology institute and CYBER KIDS.

He is Co-Founder and Director of CYBERETHICS: Cyprus Safer Internet Center. His team has envisioned, designed and implemented more than a dozen funded projects related to safer internet, cyber crime and cyber security, and he is actively involved in many related initiatives and policy groups, i.e., Insafe, INHOPE, CCI, EUKIDS Online, ECSO, Cybercrime Centre of Excellence, ECTEG – Europol, etc.
