CyberEthics, the Cyprus Awareness Node has been creative and active in promoting awareness to the Cyprus public, island-wide, on the safer use of the Internet. CyberEthics had a very effective Safer Internet Day with the collaboration of its partners plus the opportunity to promote its “Cyber” and “Ethics” characters and launch its new computer game. These created endless new opportunities for the promotion of the project especially to children and teenagers. The project was successful with respect to informing all target groups either through well-chosen media campaigns or by face-to-face presentations at schools, NGOs, universities and other forums. The new website was also a very important part of the campaign that served as the start of the new campaign that was more technology directed and high tech. | |||
|overall_objectives=The first objective is to implement a strong campaign, under the acronym “CyberEthics” concerning the safe use of Internet in Cyprus, which will serve the needs of all people that live on the island (i.e., also Turkish Cypriots and other minorities) and address not only issues of pornography, but also racism (currently on the rise in Cyprus), gender discrimination and inappropriate use of peoples’ images. The second objective is to engage in the process actors from the government and the civil society, thus contributing towards the eradication of cyber crime through informed actions of European citizens and public institutions that aim to change behaviours, mentality and attitudes, giving special emphasis to rural and less developed areas of the country.
