+Yiannis Laouris is the 70th President of the International Society for the Systems Sciences . A graduate of the medical school of Leipzig University, he started his career as a general practician. Yiannis was the first-ever foreign student in ex-East Germany to conclude his studies with a doctorate (awarded a PhD in Neurophysiology from Carl-Ludwig Institute of Neurophysiology with summa cum laude).
+During his early career in Goettingen, Germany, and Tuscon, Arizona, he studied the transmission properties and fatigue of motor neurons, muscle afferents, and Renshaw cells, applying digital signal processing in time and frequency domains to single-cell recordings, establishing and quantifying interesting relations between linear and non-linear characteristics in the behavior of neurons. In the 90s, he founded CYBER Kids, an international chain of franchised computer learning centers, which introduced IT to thousands of children in eight countries using a novel scientific approach grounded on cybernetics.

Πιο πρόσφατα έχει παρέμβει με τις "10 Εντολές Πολιτών προς Πολιτεία" (citizenscommandments.com) και συμμετέχει σε τοπικές και διεθνείς πρωτοβουλίες για μεταρρυθμίσεις στην εκπαίδευση, την πολιτική και την κοινωνία γενικότερα. Έχει στο ενεργητικό του περισσότερες από 100 αναφορές σε επιστημονικά  περιοδικά και 20 περίπου κεφάλαια σε επιστημονικά βιβλία. Έχει παρουσιάσει επιστημονικές εργασίες σε πέραν των 200  συνεδρίων σε θέματα νευροεπιστήμης, παιδείας, τεχνολογίας, διαλόγου και ειρήνης.

+Yiannis is a social, science and business entrepreneur, a neuroscientist and systems engineer educated in Germany and US, currently heading Future Worlds Center (www.futureworlds.eu). He is Member of the Board of the Institute for 21st Century Agoras, Insafe, Inhope, EU Kids online, ECSO, Cybercrime Centre of Excellence, ECTEG – Europol, and served as national representative in several COST Actions, etc. He is one of the 12 authors of the ONLIFE Manifesto drafted on behalf of the Digital Futures Task Force of the European Commission, which now guides EC funding priorities, as well as political and societal priorities in the hyper-connectivity era. Yiannis is an international leader in the theory and application of the science of structured democratic dialogue (SDD) and conducts research towards developing systems to enable scaling up participatory dialogic processes to engage asynchronously thousands of people in meaningful authentic dialogues, thus accelerating institutional and societal change. He currently runs all SDDs for the MARINA project (www.marinaproject.eu), which is entirely based on the Responsible Research and Innovation approach. He also coordinates "Reinventing Democracy in the Digital Era" (supported  by the UN Democracy Fund) engaging about 1000 young leaders from across the globe using SDDs. In the 90’s he founded CYBER Kids (http://futureworlds.eu/wiki/CYBER_KIDS), a chain of franchised computer learning centers, which introduced IT in the lives of over 15,000 children and 10,000 adults in Cyprus and many more in the 7 countries where it was also launched.
