Panel Discussion in Paphos: 12 October, 2007

Panelists: Representatives of the District Council of Cesis/ Latvia, Klitos Symeonides

The Panel Discussion was organized by the Cyprus Adult Education Association at the ‘Axiothea’ hotel in Paphos on 12 October at 6.30 pm. Topic of the Discussion was the integration of immigrants especially in the Paphos area.

The Panel Discussion was chaired by Mr. Symeonides. 12 teachers and headmasters from schools in Paphos attended the panel discussion and engaged in an exchange of experiences and practices with the representatives from Latvia.

The focal point of the discussion was the educational system with regards to the high influx of migrant children, be it first or second generation immigrants. Education is the foundation for a peaceful society in which citizens of different backgrounds can live together, thus the educational system and teachers in particular play a major role in promoting multiculturalism.
