Pantelis Makris

Pantelis Makris served as
Member of the Board between 1999 and 2006. He also served as Member of the Advisory Board of Cyberethics: Cyprus Safer Internet Center between 2005-2008. He is currently Member of the Advisory Board for N.E.T.S. Board of Trustees.
Pantelis joined as a Senior Research Scientist in 1994, and led for many years the Special Education Unit, which pioneered in the development of screening/evaluation as well as treatment software-based tools for learning difficulties.
Pantelis retired as a Special Education Inspector employed by the Ministry of Education and Culture. He served as, member of the Multidisciplinary Committee for the Assessment of Special Needs Children, President of the Information and Communication Technology Committee at the Ministry of Education, Project Manager for various European and non European projects (e.g., ARION, COST, UNOPS, IPE) and Coordinator of Information and Communication Technology use for Children with Mental Retardation integrated in Secondary and Higher Education.
Head of the Dyslexia Unit
Mr. Makris is credited for the creation of The Dyslexia Group, which he headed for several years.
Organization of Computers and Dyslexia Conferences
Together with Yiannis Laouris, Mr. Makris co-organized many conferences, both international and national including:

Role in the Hermes Project
Mr. Makris was founding Member of The Hermes Project.
Role in CYBER KIDS
Mr. Makris joined as one of the very first experts the Cyber Kids Chain. Between 1994-1998 he Curriculum Development Unit of the Cyprus Neuroscience and Technology Institute, which was in charge for the development of the CYBER KIDS curriculum. The innovation and creativity of this curriculum was recognized with many awards, including the very prestigious Award for Creativity and the INPEX Pittsburgh 95 Silver Award for CYBER KIDS Innovative Curriculum.
Pioneer in the Promotion of Rapprochement
Mr. Makris was involved in a number of peace building projects and is credited also for the creation of a bicommunal group of the deaf. He also served a member of the Advisory Board for Technology for Peace.
